method of selection in this country of

candidates for appointment to the staff

of Hong Kong University.

It will be within your knowledge

that, when from time to time requests

have been received for the recruitment

in this country, on behalf of the

University Council, of Professors and

Lecturers or

Readers for

Tutors f

for the University,

it has been the practice for the

selections to be undertaken sometimes

by the appointments Department at the

Colonial Office and sometimes by the

Board of Education. Since 1926 vacancies

of this nature have, at the request of

the University Council, been filled on the

recommendation of the Board of Education,
